"The Jesus Storybook Bible" tells the story beneath all the stories in the Bible. At the center of the story is a baby, the child upon whom everything will depend. Every story whispers his name. From Noah to Moses to the great King David - every story points to him. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle - the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the story unfolds, children will pick up the clues and piece together the puzzle. A Bible like no other, "The Jesus Storybook Bible" invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the center of God's great story of salvation - and at the center of their story too.
Beautifully written (2009-07-03)
I absolutely love this Bible storybook! It is beautifully written. The author creatively expresses the heart of God as our Rescuer. It has wonderful, full page illustrations that are rich and bold. Whenever I read from this book to my girls who are 6 and 3 years old they always want more! I have bought numerous copies and given them away as gifts to friends, family, and neighbors.
Beautiful writing, beautiful images, beautiful story (of course): beautiful book (2009-06-22)
Lloyd-Jones has a beautiful sense of rhythm and image: her lines are often more like adult poetry than kiddy prose. The stories are organized well, concise enough for young attention spans and always pointing to the hero to come. Lloyd-Jones has also discerned well key moments in the original stories that might otherwise get swept to the back for children.
The images also capture significant moments and offer beautiful treats for child and adult alike. They neither trivialize the stories into mere caricatures, nor are they so complicated that even very young children cannot find them fascinating enough to ponder while mom and dad read the prose on those pages. And sometimes they reveal more insight into the larger original story, offering opportunity to share more from the images themselves--like at the end of the "parting of the waters" story where we see Miriam dancing with tambourine. Though Miriam's beautiful song is not included in Lloyd-Jones' version of this story, we who know the original can notice her joyful worship dance in this story's final image.
This is a great primer for children in the general power of narrative and the specific beauty of God's redemptive history. Even my 2.5-year-old loves having these stories read to him, and he doesn't have an exceptionally long attention span for such stuff. This book is a treat for our family--worshipful for all ages.
shares God's heart... very moving, gospel clearly displayed (2009-06-12)
this bible storybook is an amazing introduction to the bible to give unsaved young ones and their parents, who may have never read the bible before... or for Christian parents to read with their children or grandchildren... it clearly shares the gospel, from creation to Revelation, but in a storybook fashion... but it shares God's tender and loving heart first of all in all that is told, in a way that draws the reader to want to know this God they speak of, and brings to mind the times that Jesus was known for being friends with "sinners & taxgathers"... what drew them to Him?... why did they feel comfortable with Him when so many people today are turned off by the idea of Christianity or the mention of Jesus?... I hope that when I share Jesus with others, children or adults, that I can relay to them the spirit that this book shares... it is very moving and yet simply told... and you can't wait to turn the page to see what happens next... the artwork is also very well done... can't wait to begin to read it to our grandson when he comes to visit
wonderful!!!! (2009-05-30)
I absolutely love this Bible. The stories are written beautifully. I enjoy reading them myself, and my daughter is captivated when I read them to her. The illustrations are wonderfully creative. It is so awesome that each page is illustrated with a beautiful color picture. I just LOVE this Bible.
The Jesus Storybook Bible (2009-05-15)
I am enjoying this book so far. The Bible stories are written in a very down to earth way and can be used with children of all ages. The book is colorful and attractive. I've just begun to use it so I don't know fully how the audience will take the readings, but I'm thinking it will be a real hit. My only diappointment is that it does not provide more of the stories and events of the Bible. Hopefully there'll be a sequel.
